I am not a power user so my limited user knowledge should be taken into account when considering my views but here goes. I have EZD2, SD3 and SSD5 (free version). EZ2 has plenty of audio demos on their site to listen to as well as a FREE DEMO. I would download the FREE SSD5 kit and check it out. The mixer in SSD5 is more full featured, no question there The limitations are not there in EZ2 once you record down your individual parts and treat them like a regular kit. Sound preference is just that, preference. I have had Slate since before version 4 here.

construction window to piece together your track and easily beats Slate in support.

EZ2 has lots of expansions, loads of midi patterns, tap to find. SSD5 has more as far as the mixing area and the sound is diff than EZ2. SSD does not have a good history with updates and bug fixes. Others would be Addictive Drums, Steven Slate and BFD.EZ2 is a HUGE step up from EZ1 in function and sound quality. SD2 or SD3 are on my list of potential candidates. I want go find a drum software that will allow me to work quicker while creating drums that sound real. Creating dynamics and trying to get the midi drums sounding natural is a ton of work! There’s got to be a quicker way of doing midi drums than the way I’m doing it. I don’t like using the prefab tracks that come with the drum software. Right now I create a virtual midi track in Reaper and then I draw in the kick, snare, hi hats, toms, etc. I need to learn how to create my midi drum tracks a lot faster and better than I do now. It sounds much better than the basic EZ Drummer kit. Recently I’ve been using the free Steven Slate kit. I don’t like the artificial sound of the Alesis/ Yamaha kit and I’m pretty unimpressed by EZ Drummer. In 20 I also did a few song recordings using EZ Drummer. I was recording drums with an acoustic kit between 20 and then I switched to an Alesis/ Yamaha electric drum kit. I think the expansion packs would provide more variety and probably better sounding samples but I’m not sold on EZ Drummer as of now. When I first got it I thought it’s drum sounds were pretty decent but now I find them to be quite weak and limited.
